Workforce Certification Programs - Medical Billing & Coding
The Certified Medical Billing & Coding Program through the NorthEast ISD Adult and Community Education Department will help HS students and adults develop the skills and credentials necessary to work in the exciting field of healthcare! The program will prepare individuals to enter the workforce in many roles, such as medical billers, referrals, authorizations coordinator, accounts receivable clerk, appeals coordinator, appointment scheduler, or front desk coordinator. Individuals will develop an understanding of medical billing, medical terminology, and medical coding. While enrolled in the program, individuals prepare and take the American Medical Billing Association’s Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist exam. Students will also develop the necessary skills to take the coding exams provided by AAPC and AHIMA.
Medical Billing and Coding positions are growing at a 29.8% rate over the next ten years with a starting salary of $21K, an average of $39K, and a high of $62K in the state of Texas. There are 8,700 jobs that need to be filled each year.
The course will meet on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the NEISD Community Learning Center. If the District is closed at any point, the course will continue via Zoom and Google Classroom at the regularly scheduled time. Participants in the program will receive the following benefits: • One-year membership to American Medical Billing Association • Medical Billing and Coding Textbooks • Current year ICD-10-CM Coding Book • Current year CPT Coding Book • Current year HCPCS Coding Book • Current year Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist study guide • One Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist exam fee with three free retakes This course can be taken live, in-person or via Zoom. Participants do not have to reside in San Antonio to take the course.
